My competitors show off beatuiful work, but what if you were able to interact with tatted 3D models?
What's better than looking at tattoos?
Experiencing Tattoos.
This user has several tattoos and a deep interest in tattoo culture. They are knowledgeable about different styles, techniques, and artists.
User is interested in getting their first tattoo but may feel unsure or overwhelmed by the process. They are seeking guidance and information to help them make informed decisions.
They may not have tattoos but are interested in understanding the cultural significance of tattooing
This project was intended to show appreciation to tattoo cultures globally. Thus, a lot of research and ideation was necessary to ensure accuracy and respect.
A challenge with this project was balancing out educational content without overwhelming the user, especially if they are new to tattooing processes, let alone the cultural implications.
Additionally, I thought about how I would lead my user through the experience in a way that is memorable and engaging.
Moving from my brain (sketchbook) to wireframes, I decided that it would be better to dive into one specific culture and make sure I can accurately display one cultures tattoos.
I decided that for this specific user flow, the user would...
- Select a location in the world via a 3D modeled globe. In this case, Japan.
- Learn about a specific form of that culture's tattooing style.
- Learn about the tool(s) used.
- Interact with a 3D model that holds tattooing motifs
This project was the first time I had to set a timeline for myself, and I struggled a lot with that. On top of setting my own timeline, I also had to scale my project down constantly, as I had planned on doing three locations instead of just Japan. Besides the timeline and focusing on design elements, I need to iterate on my designs constantly. The project was more refined towards the end of the timeline, but I wish I had taken more time to explore other possible styles.
